Miel de Botton releases new music video ‘Freedom Song’

13th March 2026

Singer-songwriter Miel de Botton has released the official music video for ‘Freedom Song’, the latest visual from her EP ‘Loved Ones: Volume 2’.

Originally released in audio form on 30 January 2026, the track now receives a heartfelt visual interpretation mostly shot by Morten Schjolin and edited by Sam Clifford. The film reveals an intimate and soulful dimension of the EP: one that feels warm, reflective and yet strongly  joyful.

A Collaboration Rooted in Faith and Friendship

‘Freedom Song’ was written by Andy Wright and Miel de Botton and created in close collaboration with Cornelia Opiyo, a dear friend whose warmth, faith and infectious joy shape the heart of the track.

The two first met through an unexpected but ordinary moment of life: Cornelia was Miel’s beauty therapist. Over time, what began as casual conversation grew into a genuine friendship, filled with thoughtful discussions about faith, scripture, personal growth and the complexities of life.

From these heartfelt exchanges emerged ‘Freedom Song’, a track that gently reflects on experiences of challenging familial and marital dynamics, and the courage required to move towards healing.

For Cornelia, the collaboration also holds special meaning. Having sung in her youth and once dreamt of continuing, the opportunity to lend her voice to this project became a deeply affirming moment, transforming a long-held hope into reality. Her vocals alongside de Botton’s bring a soulful richness and sincerity to the song’s message.

A Little Sanctuary of Friendship

The music video offers a tender and playful glimpse into the friendship between Miel and Cornelia. In some of its charming scenes, Cornelia is seen painting Miel’s nails - a gentle nod to the way they first met. Set within a warm, safe and welcoming space, the film captures the simple intimacy of two friends sharing time together.

Stories are exchanged, laughter flows easily, and what unfolds feels wonderfully familiar: just two girlfriends enjoying a bit of heartfelt conversation,  good old gab!

At the same time, the video carries a deeper emotional current. Moments of carefree trampoline jumping and shared joy evoke a sense of innocence… the kind that exists before life’s trials. Yet here, that innocence feels newly earned, shaped by the journeys both women have travelled.

Part of the Loved Ones Collection

‘Freedom Song’ forms part of Miel de Botton’s ‘Loved Ones’ collection, a body of work dedicated to the people who shape our lives and leave lasting imprints on our hearts.

The track sits alongside ‘Immortality on the Dance Floor’ and ‘Ma Ya’, each song exploring a different kind of connection: from spiritual reflection and friendship to memory, resilience and joy.

Together, these songs celebrate the relationships that help us grow, heal and rediscover ourselves.

The official music video for ‘Freedom Song’ is now available to watch on YouTube.
