Gabrielle’s Gala, Battersea Power Station

  • 1st May 2013
  • Battersea Power Station

Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1996 by the family of Gabrielle Rich Aouad following her death from acute myelogenous leukemia at just 27. The foundation conducts research in the fields of leukemia, lymphoma and related cancers and has awarded grants totalling $23 million in support of blood cancer research in the United States. Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation UK was created in 2011 with the intention of funding similar research in the United Kingdom.

Miel’s connection to the charity is an extremely personal one, as Gabrielle was a childhood friend. Miel was asked to perform at the foundation’s UK fundraising event at Battersea Power Station in May 2013 among artists including BRIT Award-winner Jessie J. Miel performed a moving set, which included a version of ‘Beautiful You’, specially written for Gabrielle. The gala raised nearly £600,000, and its 400-plus guest included the Duchess of York and Princess Beatrice, Bill Nighy, Bill Wyman, and Jamelia.
